Performers will soon be waiting in the wings once more, as The Fabulous Fox prepares for the return of live concerts and Broadway musicals to the Fox stage.

“After our long intermission that began in March 2020, we can’t wait for this new (Broadway) season to begin on November 16, 2021” said Fox Theatre director of programming John O’Brien.

The six-show U.S. Bank Broadway Series at the Fox season will include two of the productions that were postponed at the end of the 2019-2020 season, “Hamilton” and “Cats,” and four postponed shows from the 2020-2021 season, “Pretty Woman: The Musical,” “The Prom,” “Mean Girls” and “My Fair Lady.”

Missing from the previous season’s lineup is “Disney’s Frozen,” but the Fox announced the return of “Disney’s The Lion King” in the summer of 2022, with subscribers having the option to add “The Lion King” for a seven-show package.

“Pretty Woman: The Musical” begins its national tour this fall and kicks off the season, Nov. 16 to 28. The record-breaking Andrew Lloyd Webber musical, “Cats” (Dec. 21 to Jan. 2), features all-new lighting and sound design and choreography. The Broadway hit, “The Prom,” makes its Fox Theatre debut from Jan. 25 to Feb. 6. “Mean Girls,” based on the hilarious screenplay by comedian Tina Fey, will also make its St. Louis premiere at the Fox, Feb. 15 to 27. A new production of the classic musical, “My Fair Lady,” runs March 22 to April 3. The long-anticipated return of the Broadway phenomenon, “Hamilton,” takes place next spring, from April 12 to May 15. And “Disney’s The Lion King” concludes the season, June 1 to 18.

In addition, four other Broadway shows will be offered as specials, including “A Christmas Carol” (Dec. 2 to 5), “A Magical Cirque Christmas” (Dec. 9), “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer the Musical” (Dec. 17 and 18), and the 25th anniversary production of “Riverdance” (March 11 to 13).

The Fox Theatre plans to release COVID-related protocols prior to reopening at full capacity, according to O’Brien.

“The Fabulous Fox is working with government and health officials to create and implement health and safety protocols that will ensure the safe return of audiences at full capacity so subscribers can enjoy their same great seats.  This does include improvements to the theater’s air handling system,” he said.

Current season-ticket holders will receive their specific account information with their options for the six- or seven-show package in late April. New season-ticket packages will go on sale June 7.  On-sale dates for individual shows will be announced at a later date.

The Fox this week also announced the return of live concerts with “STL Sounds at the Fabulous Fox,” a concert series featuring local bands and other performances. The upcoming performances kick off on April 17 with a comedy showcase, “City Showcase: Comedy at the Fox,” followed by “An Evening with the Funky Butt Brass Band” (April 23), Alligator Wine (May 8), “An Evening with the Mighty Pines” (May 14) and “An Evening with Superjam” (May 22).

Performances will be socially distanced, with tickets sold in pods of two to four seats. Maximum capacities will start at 250 and increase as allowed by city and government guidelines, to begin the process of “ramping” up to full capacity Fox shows in the fall. Tickets for “STL Sounds at the Fabulous Fox” series go on sale at 10 a.m. on Thursday, April 1.
