Later this month, the St. Louis Black Repertory Company will host the Sophisticated Ladies Luncheon to support an initiative for women of color in theater.

Since 2018, The Black Rep’s Sophisticated Ladies giving initiative has underwritten a main-stage performance each season penned by a woman of color. This year, the beneficiary is The Black Rep’s production of “Wedding Band” by Alice Childress, which runs March 13 to 31 at the Berges Theatre at COCA.

“Wedding Band” tells the story between Julia, a Black seamstress, and Herman, her white lover, searingly addressing prejudice and ignorance in early 20th-century America at the end of World War I.

Proceeds from the Sophisticated Ladies Luncheon on Sunday, Feb. 25, directly support the show, from the cast to the costumes, set and overall production.

The luncheon is from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 25, at 18 Rails at The Foundry. Click here for tickets and sponsorship opportunities, which include the luncheon and Opening Night seating for “Wedding Band.”
