Broadway star and St. Louis native Norbert Leo Butz has a new album out and he plans to celebrate with a hometown album release concert at The Sheldon.
The two-time Tony Award winner will be at The Sheldon Friday, Sept. 29, for a special Notes From Home performance featuring music from his latest, “King of Hearts,” an album he wrote with his daughter during the pandemic. Local favorite Devon Cahill joins as a special guest.
Butz has appeared in a number of iconic and award-winning Broadway productions, including “Wicked,” where he originated the role of Fiero, as well as “Big Fish,” “The Last Five Years” and “My Fair Lady.” He is the recipient of two Tony Awards for Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Musical (“Dirty Rotten Scoundrels” and “Catch Me If You Can”). His television credits include roles in “Bloodline,” “Mercy Street” and “Fosse/Verdon,” among others. “King of Hearts” is his fourth solo recording.
Born and raised in St. Louis, Butz grew up in the Holly Hills neighborhood in South City, the seventh of 11 children of Elaine and Norbert Butz. His love of theatre began at an early age, singing in the church choir at St. Stephen Parish and going to movies at the Granada. In his teen years, the family moved to Affton. Butz graduated from Webster University’s Conservatory of Theatre Arts.
