The St. Louis County Library’s acclaimed Author Series makes its return to in-person events in September with “An Evening with Leonard Slatkin,” featuring the beloved maestro and live musical performances.

Slatkin, the renowned, Grammy Award-winning conductor laureate of the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra, will be on hand to discuss his new book, “Classical Crossroads: The Path Forward for Music in the 21st Century.”

Guests will also enjoy a live performance by Slatkin of Leroy Anderson’s “The Typewriter” (arr. C. Woehr), a pre-recorded Slatkin-conducted performance of Charles Ives’ “Variations on America” (arr. McCall), and a live string quartet performance by the Chamber Music Society of St. Louis.

The event will take place at Library Headquarters at 7 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 13. Doors open at 6 p.m., with seating on a first-come, first served basis.

Tickets go on sale Monday, Aug. 2, on Eventbrite.

An individual ticket ($45) admits one and includes one pre-signed copy of “Classical Crossroads.” A package ticket ($75) admits two and includes one pre-signed copy of “Classical Crossroads.” There will not be a public book signing at the event.

For an additional donation, guests can join Slatkin at an exclusive pre-event cocktail reception from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the library. Each $150 VIP ticket includes admission for one to the pre-event cocktail reception, a pre-signed copy of “Classical Crossroads,” book discussion and concert.

All proceeds from the event benefit the St. Louis County Library Foundation and the Chamber Music Society of St. Louis.
