Metro Theater Company is out with its 2023-2024 season lineup of shows for young audiences, as well as a free, two-day Fall Family Festival in the Grand Center Arts District.

Metro’s 51st season opens with “Maddi’s Fridge” (Sept. 11 to Oct. 22), the story of best friends Maddi and Sofia, who live in the same neighborhood, go to the same school and play at the same rock-climbing gym. But when Sofia learns a secret about Maddi’s family, she is faced with the difficult decision of keeping her promise or telling her parents about Maddi’s empty fridge to help her friends. The show will tour across schools in the St. Louis region, as well as have three free public performances at St. Louis Public Library’s Central Library and Buder locations and at Hermann Farm.

Two productions at the Grandel Theatre come next: “Eddie & Vinnie” (Oct. 18 to Nov. 5) and the Tony-nominated “A Year with Frog and Toad” (Feb. 7 to March 3).

“Eddie & Vinnie” is a new play by Jenny Millinger that shows how there is more than one way to learn and more than one way to shine through the story of Eddie, an unstoppable artist with a uniquely beautiful mind and his gecko best friend, Vinnie. Together, the two spend hours making intricate and beautiful puzzles. Eddie also teams up with a very helpful new girl in order to get out of summer school.

“A Year with Frog and Toad” is the three-time Tony-nominated musical based on Arnold Lobel’s award-winning books. Hibernation is over and it’s time for Frog and Toad to celebrate. Set against a jazzy, upbeat score, the duo shows how individuality makes friendship stronger.

Tickets to the mainstage 2023-2024 season productions are $20 to $38.

“Maddi’s Fridge” and “Eddie & Vinnie” will also be performed for free during the Fall Family Festival in Grand Center, Oct. 21 and 22. Metro Theater Company is partnering with some of the region’s most loved arts and education institutions to present two days of artmaking, learning, food (food trucks will be on site) and fun.

General admission for the festival will be free for all; advance registration is strongly recommended.
