9 Mile Garden’s first-ever New Year’s Eve celebration is an all-inclusive black-tie cocktail party at the food truck garden’s Canteen. Not up for a midnight toast? Don’t miss out on the fun just because your bedtime means business. Get a head start on the merriment at the Missouri History Museum, where instead of a ball drop, a balloon drop will take place at the stroke of noon! The family-friendly event has “make-and-take” crafts like noisemakers and wish wands, games, a wandering magician, storytelling and live music by FIRE DOG for dancing – all leading up to the balloon and confetti drop in the Grand Hall. A New Year’s Eve tradition at Powell Hall returns for two concerts this year featuring St. Louis Symphony (SLSO) music director Stéphane Denève conducting a celebratory repertoire to welcome 2022. Performances include George Gershwin’s “Rhapsody in Blue” with pianist Michelle Cann in her SLSO debut, and “An American in Paris,” plus the world premiere of Stefan Freund’s “Voyageur Fantasy” featuring principal horn Roger Kaza and a few surprises! $45 to $110; slso.org

 

WHAT: WINTERFEST NEON NIGHTS CELEBRATION

WHERE: Kiener Plaza

Ring in the new year amid the dazzling downtown lights of Winterfest in Kiener Plaza with “Neon Nights.” Prior to the fireworks display under the Gateway Arch, the family-friendly celebration features music by DeeJay MaKossa, a photo booth, neon/glow face painters, fire dancers, balloon artists, a skating “wild lights” juggler and plenty of giveaways.
