This year’s Centerpiece Event at the St. Louis International Film Festival has an added dash of celebrity and sports: an in-person screening of “American Underdog: The Kurt Warner Story,” with Kurt and Brenda Warner in attendance.
The Warners, who served as executive producers on the film, will attend the St. Louis screening Monday, Nov. 8, at the Tivoli Theatre. The couple will also hold Q&A session after the movie.
The movie follows the legendary quarterback’s unbelievable rags-to-riches story, from working as a grocery stocker to becoming a two-time National Football League MVP and leading the St. Louis Rams to Super Bowl victory in 2000. Zachary Levi, who starred as the title role in “Shazam!” and NBC’s “Chuck,” plays Warner in the film. Also in the cast are Academy Award-winner Anna Paquin as Brenda Warner and Dennis Quaid as Rams coach Dick Vermeil. The film is set to premiere in theaters nationwide on Christmas Day.
The special screening of “American Underdog” is part of the 30th annual Whitaker St. Louis International Film Festival, which runs Nov. 4 to 21. Due to the ongoing pandemic, the festival will be hybrid, with in-person and virtual offerings. In person screenings will be held at the Tivoli (Nov. 4 to 14, 18 to 21), as well as Washington University’s Brown Hall Auditorium (Nov. 5 to 6, 12 to 14, 19 to 21), and Webster University’s Winifred Moore Auditorium (Nov. 5 to 14). Other venues include the St. Louis Public Library and the Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis.
Ticket information for “American Underdog,” as well as a complete list of in-person and virtual screenings, can be found on the Cinema St. Louis website.
