A large-scale mural celebrating community will soon go up at City Foundry STL. As part of the celebration, the almost completed mural will be part of a large block party event involving local artists later this week.
Work on the mural, by German urban artist Case Maclaim, is now underway along Foundry Way, under the building where the planned Fresh Thyme Market will be located. Maclaim, also known as Andres Von Chrzanowski, primarily uses spray paint to allow him to achieve his distinct, life-like graffiti look that combines photorealism with tones of surrealism. Maclaim’s intricate artwork throughout the world aims to create aerosol pieces everyone can understand, regardless of geographical location.
The St. Louis mural is said to harken the sense of community that City Foundry exemplifies with its food hall and other public gathering spaces.
As Maclaim’s piece near completion, an art takeover block party will be held at City Foundry on Friday, Nov. 5, from 6 to 9 p.m. Attendees will be able to see the almost-completed mural, as well as enjoy a variety of experiences from up to a dozen local artists and organizations. Some of the artists featured include Dean Schultz, Tom Calderwood, BriLynn McNeal and more. There will also be an interactive dance performance from Yes Honey, as well as an art table for kids from the nonprofit St. Louis ArtWorks.
The event, called “In a Way, A Takeover for the Arts,” is hosted by City Foundry in partnership with #314Together. Admission is free, but VIP packages, including an after party, are available through Eventbrite.
