Metro Theater Names Interim Leader as Company Transitions

(Editor’s Note: Metro Theater Company on Dec. 7, 2023 made it official, announcing Jessie Youngblood as its new managing director.)

Metro Theater Company has appointed Jessie Youngblood as interim managing director to lead the organization, whose award-winning productions have been enjoyed by young audiences and their families for 50 years.

Youngblood is a nonprofit veteran, having previously served as development director at Metro Theater, where she successfully devised and executed fundraising strategies, organized key events, and played a critical role in expanding the organization’s donor base. Her background in fundraising extends across St. Louis, raising millions of dollars in various development roles, as well as taking the lead in forging numerous innovative partnerships.

Youngblood succeeds Joe Gfaller, who is departing in mid-October for the role of managing director at Clear Space Theatre Company in Rehoboth, Beach, Delaware.

As interim managing director, Youngblood will lead in partnership with retiring artistic director Julia Flood to fulfill the company’s mission to provide exceptional theatrical experiences that engage and inspire young audiences. She will also help guide the organization through the transitional period and the search for a new executive artistic director in the coming months.
