We now know the complete lineup of shows for The Muny next summer.
The six-time Tony Award-winning “Chicago” returns for an encore as it kicks off The Muny’s 104th’s season.
The Muny last night unveiled the shows for the upcoming season as the outdoor theatre company returns to its standard seven-show lineup next summer.
“Chicago,” highly acclaimed as The Muny’s season closer for 2021, returns to the stage June 13 to 19; followed by Lerner and Loewe’s classic “Camelot” (June 22 to 28); Disney and Cameron Mackintosh’s “Mary Poppins” (July 5 to 13); the Muny debut of Stephen Sondheim’s “Sweeney Todd” (July 16 to 22); award-winning musical “Legally Blonde” (July 25 to 31); landmark musical “The Color Purple,” also making its Muny debut (Aug. 3 to 9); and closing out the 104th season is Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s family favorite, “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” (Aug. 12 to 18).
The announcement was made during a virtual livestream featuring Muny artistic director and executive producer Mike Isaacson on the organization’s YouTube channel.
This year, The Muny presented an abbreviated season with five productions and a later start. Total attendance for The Muny’s five-show season in 2021 topped 192,806, despite two rainouts and the cancellation of the final three performances of “Chicago.”
