New Schlafly Brew Benefits and Celebrates Tower Grove Park

Schlafly Beer’s new Park Lager celebrates Tower Grove Park.

Something’s brewing between between Schlafly Beer and Tower Grove Park.

The St. Louis-based craft brewery has announced the release of Park Lager, a new beer to benefit and celebrate the landmark park in south St. Louis.

The new brew, an American-style lager, comes in four-pack, 16-ounce cans for $7.99, and will feature four different images of iconic spaces throughout Tower Grove Park. The nonprofit public park relies on memberships for funding, and Schlafly Beer has pledged to match all membership dollars now through November.

Park Lager was created with the park’s horticulture team in mind, according to lead brewer Jared Williamson.

“Our brewing team had the opportunity to sit down with the horticulture and forestry teams in June to brainstorm the beer,” Williamson said. “One big takeaway was how approachable and welcoming the park is – it’s a space for everyone. We wanted the beer to reflect that, as well. The team shared that a lager made sense as that’s what they would want to drink after a day outside. Since St. Louis is home to the American lager, we took inspiration from that for the various grains in the beer.”

Williamson said a touch of honey malt was added for sweetness and character, as well as a nod to the new Tower Grove Park beekeeping and honey program. Chinook hops are used to bring a bit of woody/piney notes to reference the park’s trees, and Hallertau blanc hops are used for an “aromatic floral component like the flowers in the park.”

Tower Grove Park executive director Bill Reininger said the partnership is only the start of good things to come.

“We are excited about the new Park Lager beer, and Schlafly’s continued support of our events and membership program,” Reininger said. “Tower Grove Park relies on membership dollars to maintain and enhance the park. Members directly support conserving our trees and plants, providing free community events and preserving our historical pavilions.”

Tower Grove Park is one of only seven National Historic Landmark parks in the nation, along with New York’s Central Park and Boston Public Garden. The park features a renowned collection of Victorian park architecture and an internationally recognized arboretum. Visit the park’s website to learn more.

Park Lager is now available at selected locations throughout St. Louis, as well as for online ordering at the Schlafly brewpubs. Visit schlafly.com for more information.
