Cherokee Street has two new hotspots, for those of you looking for something fun and different.
‘Ssippi, located at the corner of Cherokee Street and Pennsylvania Avenue (2926 Cherokee St.), is a modern, airy wine oasis.
‘Ssippi is co-owned by Brogan Drissell and Emily Kostiuk, who started planning for their concept in late 2019. But COVID put their plans on hold until now.
‘Ssippi opened in early July as a spot to celebrate natural wines amid a European-style café environment. Drissell, who has experience working at a natural wine bar in Los Angeles, was inspired to bring the concept to his hometown of St. Louis. For the most part, natural winemaking is a process that adds and subtracts nothing during production, and is done without the use of pesticides or herbicides.
The space, once home to the Blue Pearl and Red Oak Biscuits, has been completely renovated, with plenty of natural light, a piano in the main room and a back patio. Live music and other events are planned for the space soon; as well as a wine shop for people to purchase natural wine for home.
‘Ssippi is open Monday, Thursday and Friday from 5 p.m. to midnight, and Saturday and Sunday from 2 p.m. to midnight.
Up the street in the heart of Antique Row at 1915 Cherokee St., Saturn Lounge hopes to be big hit for those who love records.
Owned by KDHX host Doug Morgan, the space is a “listening lounge” complete with a full indoor bar and front patio. The lounge, located across the street from Dead Wax Records, is housed in a 1883 building that’s been decked out with modern furniture and art.
The bar menu offers draft and canned beers, and classic cocktails. Saturn Lounge is open Wednesday through Sunday, beginning at 3 p.m.
