Next month, the St. Louis County Library (SLCL) will host the 43rd annual Storytelling Festival, one of the largest events of its kind in the world.
The festival, from October 13 to 22, features nationally renowned storytellers, including Sheila Arnold, Noa Baum, Trix Bruce, Motoko Dworkin, Nestor Gomez, Bobby Norfolk and Queen Nur.
Events are planned at a number of different venues such as the Missouri History Museum, the J Mirowitz Performing Arts Center, the High Low in Grand Center and at various library branch locations.
The kickoff will be held at the History Museum on Thursday, Oct. 13, at 6:30 p.m. The event, “American Experience through Storytelling,” will feature storytellers Arnold, Baum and Gomez, who will share inspiring, thought-provoking stories. Food and drink will be available for purchase on site.
Additional events include “Tales After Dark” on Friday, Oct. 14, at the Florissant Valley branch and a Storytelling Showcase on Saturday, Oct. 15, at the J Mirowitz Performing Arts Center in Creve Coeur, among others.
This year marks the first year SLCL is hosting the long-running festival, which was most recently overseen by the University of Missouri Extension. The festival reaches a diverse audience across the St. Louis region with programs designed to interpret and explore the human experience.
The St. Louis County Library, which is celebrating its 75th anniversary in 2022, says the festival fits well within its mission to provide the resources and services to enrich individual minds, enhance lives and expand perspectives.
The festival is for all ages and is free to attend. For a complete schedule of events and additional information, visit the St. Louis County Library’s official event page.
