Spring break-bound? A St. Louis-based fashion brand has launched its travel-friendly, Caribbean-inspired Spring 2023 apparel line featuring pieces that are sustainably and ethically sourced.
With colors, prints and motifs inspired by the “irie” lifestyle, Gyal Bashy’s mix-and-match spring collection includes dresses, tops, bottoms, cover-ups, beach hats, totes and more. The size-inclusive brand offers women’s apparel and accessories ranging from small to 2XL pieces to one-size-fits-most garments.
The name, Gyal Bashy, translates to “Girl, you look amazing!” in Jamaican patois. Founded by husband-and-wife team Dayne Lewis and Connie Bourgeois, the company is a woman-owned, Black-owned and veteran-owned brand whose focus is on well-fitting, ethically produced apparel made to enhance women’s natural beauty.
Gyal Bashy’s pieces, produced in labor-compliant factories audited for social and ethical standards, are created with recycled fibers made from plastic waste, organic cotton or sustainably farmed plant-based materials.
The brand was launched in May 2022 by Lewis and Bourgeois. The Jamaican-born Lewis, Gyal Bashy’s co-founder and CFO, was raised and surrounded by women who had confidence and style. Bourgeois, the company’s co-founder and creative director, has a background in fashion design and has years of experience in the fashion industry.
Gyal Bashy pieces are available at all three locations of Paperdolls boutiques, as well as the Procure by The Women’s Creative at City Foundry STL. New spring items also launch weekly on the Gyal Bashy website.
