Taco destination Taqueria Morita will soon unveil its new permanent space in the Central West End.
For two years, the popular Mexican eatery served diners garden-side during warm-weather months at its sister restaurant, Vicia, in the Cortex District.
On Thursday, April 4, Taqueria Morita will open its doors to the public adjacent to the Aloft Hotel at 4239 Duncan Ave. at the Cortex.
New lunch offerings will be on tap, including chicken torta and a rice bowl with a choice of achiote chicken or mushroom barbacoa. Taqueria Morita’s signature tacos take center stage for dinner, with offerings such as Pork Carnitas, Fish Tempura, Carne Asada, Oyster Mushroom and Smoked Potato tacos, as well as a large-format option for sharing, the pork belly chicharron for two. Snacks include tuna crudo, BBQ sweet potato and a cauliflower ceviche tostada. New to the space will be a marisco bar featuring a handful of seasonal raw seafood dishes. The eatery’s full catering menu will also be available for lunch and dinner.
Bar offerings include a wider range of agave spirits, flavored margaritas, draft beer and drink specials such as the signature MargMorita and agua frescas.
The new space, inspired by the spirit of the Baja Peninsula and northern Mexico, can seat up to 100 guests and host large parties and semi-private groups.
Aaron Martinez, who is culinary director and partner at Take Root Hospitality, the restaurant’s ownership group, will continue to serve as head chef at Taqueria Morita alongside Alex Welsch. Craig Cunningham will serve as general manager and Leila Miller will oversee the bar program.
Beginning April 4, Taqueria Morita will be open from 11 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday for lunch, happy hour and dinner on a walk-in basis.
An opening party will be held Friday, March 29, from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $65 per person and include a welcome cocktail and a variety of passed dishes from the new menu.
