Time to toast the winners. Results honoring the best of the best from the Missouri Grape and Wine’s 2019 Missouri Wine Competition have been released.
The annual competition honors the highest-quality wines made in the state. More than 280 wines from 32 Missouri wineries were entered, judged by a panel of acclaimed judges, comprised of wine experts and industry professionals.
It took two days of swirling, smelling and tasting to judge all the wines entered. After all wines were scored, the entries that receive gold medals go head-to-head for the honor of being named “Best of Class.” Best of Class then competed for the highest award, the Governor’s Cup.
The Governor’s Cup for 2019 was awarded to Stone Hill Winery for its 2017 Chambourcin, a dry red wine that blew the judges away. Stone Hill’s 2017 Norton also captured the C.V. Riley Award for the best Norton. This is a special recognition honoring the official state grape and the history of wine making in Missouri, named after the state’s first entomologist.
To view all of this year’s winners, take a trip to the Missouri State Fair (Aug. 8 to 18). Look for the Missouri Wine tent, where displays, tastings and wine 101 information will flow. For more information, check mostatefair.com or missouriwine.org
