World-class productions – a mix of classics and contemporary plays – are in the mix for the Repertory Theatre of St. Louis’ 2022-2023 season.

The Rep will be in its 56th season when it kicks off its mainstage lineup in August. The season opener, “House of Joy” (Aug. 26 to Sept. 18), is Madhuri Shekar’s action-packed genre-busting fantasy that tells the story of a new guard who joins the emperor’s army. Next is Noël Coward’s “Private Lives” (Sept. 30 to Oct. 23), a journey down the 1930s French Riviera in a scathing sendup of the British upper class. The Rep will ring in the holiday season with its second annual production of Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol” (Nov. 18 to Dec. 30), adapted by Michael Wilson.

In the new year, Steven Sondheim’s “Putting It Together: A Musical Review” (Jan. 27 to Feb. 19) celebrates the American theatre legend with his most unforgettable masterpieces. A new time-bending drama, “Confederates” (Feb. 10 to March 5), from MacArthur Genius award-winning playwright Dominique Morisseau, tackles racial and gender bias through the journeys to two women. Closing out the mainstage season Agatha Christie’s timeless classic, “Murder on the Orient Express” (March 17 to April 16), adapted for the stage by Ken Ludwig.

Next spring will also mark the return of the popular Steve Woolf Studio Series, to be held at the new, state-of-the-art Strauss Black Box Theatre in Kirkwood Performing Arts Center (KPAC). The lineup of shows will be announced next month.
