Behind-the-scenes photographs by Academy Award-winning actor Jeff Bridges will be on display at the Sheldon Art Galleries beginning this fall.
“Jeff Bridges: Pictures” will be on display Oct. 7 through Jan. 21, 2023. Admission is free.
The exhibition at The Sheldon will be the first time the actor’s collection of photographs is shown in the Midwest.
Bridges uses a Widelux F8 panoramic camera for his personal style of photography. His exclusive photographs – shot between film takes for 30-plus years – show the sometimes chaotic, sometimes intimate moments on movie sets, highlighting actors, crew and locations.
The Widelux camera has a lens that swings in an arc and takes wide-angle images, capturing almost as many characters, action and moods as a movie. Bridges describes the camera as “sort of a missing link between still photography and moving pictures,” with an effect that leaves the viewer surrounded by the image.
A free public opening for “Jeff Bridges: Pictures” will be held Friday, Oct. 7, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Sheldon Art Galleries in Grand Center.
The Sheldon will also host a “Big Lebowski” movie night fundraiser on Friday, Nov. 4, with details to be announced at a later date. The movie’s slacker character, The Dude, is arguably Bridges’ most beloved role in a career that spans more than 50 years.
Bridges, one of Hollywood’s most successful actors, won the Oscar for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role for his turn as Bad Blake in “Crazy Heart.” In 2019, he received the Cecil B. DeMille Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the world of entertainment.
Bridges currently stars in FX’s “The Old Man,” alongside John Lithgow and Amy Brenneman. The hit series, in which he plays a former CIA agent running from his past, is based on a best-selling thriller by Thomas Perry.
