Midtown St. Louis is preparing for what’s being touted as the largest indoor entertainment venue in the city.

The Armory, a $60-million complex on 6 acres, will unveil its first phase to the public on Friday, Dec. 9.

The 250,000-square-foot property, a historic landmark on Market Street along I-64/40, was built and designed for the 138th Infantry of the Missouri National Guard in 1938. It has undergone a few transformations over the years, including serving as a multi-sports complex and a concert venue.

The venue is located close to City Foundry STL, as well as just minutes away from the Grand Center Arts District, the Grove and the Central West End.

The Armory will feature an open gathering area with bars, flexible seating, interactive games, a music stage and more.

When it opens to the public later this year, the Armory will boast an expansive, flexible open space with a 60-foot stage for live entertainment, six bars, a two-story slide, dozens of TV screens and interactive games, VIP event spaces and more, for people to gather, eat, drink and play.

An additional five venues within the property will be added through early-to-mid 2023, including the future home of the St. Louis Tennis Hall of Fame. The museum will honor St. Louis tennis greats who’ve made significant impact and contributions to game such as Dwight Davis and Butch Buchholz, and Wimbledon champs Arthur Ashe, Jimmy Conners and Ken Flach.

The Armory is expected to create 400 new jobs when it opens, with hiring to begin at the end of September.
