The Black Rep’s 46th annual gala next month will feature the acclaimed Morehouse College Glee Club in concert.

Founded in 1911 at Morehouse College in Atlanta, the choral group has performed across the country and around the world, most notably during The Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King’s funeral, President Jimmy Carter’s inauguration and the 1996 Summer Olympics. The group has also performed internationally in tours across Africa, Europe and the Caribbean.

The Morehouse College Glee Club’s performance on Saturday, Nov. 12, is part of The Black Rep’s five-year commitment to present an HBCU chorale at its gala, the organization’s biggest fundraiser of the year.

“This has been an extraordinary year, and we are so happy to be bringing the Morehouse College Glee Club to St. Louis audiences,” said Ron Himes, founder and producing director of The Black Rep. “There is no better way to celebrate our ability to experience the joy of live performance together than to hear these voices.”

Under director David E. Morrow, the all-male choral group will perform a repertoire of African and American songs during the gala at 560 Music Center (560 Trinity Ave.) in University City.

Proceeds from the gala directly support The Black Rep’s community and education programs, including Summer Performing Arts, Teen Tech Training, professional fellowships, and classes and workshops.

Founded by Himes in 1976, The Black Rep has been committed to producing, re-imagining and commissioning work written by Black playwrights, and creating opportunities for new voices and youth. Throughout its history, the organization has worked toward more equitable distribution of opportunities and resources for Black professionals and students in the theatre, improved representation on stage and behind the scenes, and a fostered community culture of support and mentorship for those who will follow.

This year’s gala co-chairs are Shanti Parikh and Denny Reagan. Gazelle proudly serves as the event’s media sponsor.
