They’re letting the good times roll at the Butterfly House for Morpho Mardi Gras.
Morpho Mardi Gras: Bugs, Butterflies and Beads is a family-friendly event in celebration of the Mardi Gras season during which the Butterfly House’s Tropical Conservatory is flooded with thousands of blue morpho butterflies.
Last week, the Butterfly House received the year’s first shipment of more than 1,200 blue morpho butterflies from a nonprofit butterfly farm in Costa Rica. Hundreds more are expected to arrive in the coming weeks for the three-week-long event, from Jan. 31 to Feb. 21.
Tomorrow’s event kickoff coincides with the reopening of Butterfly House, which had been closed for a month due to annual maintenance.
On Feb. 4 and 5, the “Bugs, Rhythm and Blues” event will feature kid-friendly jazz, festive crafts and an “instrument petting zoo” in partnership with the National Blues Museum.
The Butterfly House will be open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday during Morpho Mardi Gras. Cost is included with regular Butterfly House admission. For more information, visit the Butterfly House website.
