The soon-to-open City Foundry STL in Midtown is among those mentioned by TIME Magazine in its latest World’s Greatest Places list.

The publication, which named St. Louis as among its 2021 Greatest Places for its “reinvigorated downtown,” cites the Food Hall at City Foundry as “the area’s first true food hall, serving everything from Argentine empanadas to dosas and Bombay sliders.”

The word comes one day after City Foundry announced an opening date for its highly anticipated Food Hall.

In less than a month, the area’s new dining and entertainment destination will open its doors in Midtown featuring a variety of eateries all in one place.

Eleven kitchens will open at the Food Hall at City Foundry STL on Wednesday, Aug. 11, as part of its initial opening plan. The 11 eateries include  Good Day, Kalbi Taco Shack, Turmeric Street Style, Patty’s Cheesecakes, Buenos Aires Cafe, Press Waffle Co., Hello Poke and Poptimism STL, as well as two new kitchen concepts, Sub Division Sandwich Co. and Chez Ali.

There will also be an establishment called The Kitchen Bar, to be developed by James Beard winner and local restaurateur Gerard Craft’s Niche Food Group. The 28-seat bar, to be located at the center of the space, will feature classic cocktails, wines and local beers.

In all, 20 kitchens, averaging 500 square feet in size, are planned for the Food Hall, which is considered to be City Foundry’s flagship attraction. The dining lineup promises to be diverse, offering international flavors and new-to-the-area food vendors. Also anticipated to open in the coming months are Alamo Drafthouse Cinema, Fresh Thyme Market, 18 Rails, and Fassler Hall.

The 400-seat Food Hall plans to be open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. In addition to dining in, food will also be available for carryout.

City Foundry, located near Vandeventer and Forest Park avenues, is a 300,000-plus-square-foot venue designed to house a curated mix of restaurants, entertainment spaces, shops and offices. The property’s 107,000 square feet of office space include tenants such as Great Rivers Greenway, Deli Star Food Discovery Center, ISee Innovations and others.

City Foundry sits on the former Century Electric Foundry complex, which opened in the early 1930s. The property’s last tenants, the Federal-Mogul automotive company, left the site in 2007 and the complex remained vacant for about a decade until plans for redevelopment were announced.
