Pioneer Café Opens at McArthur’s Bakery in South St. Louis County

The new Pioneer Café at McArthur’s Bakery

A second location of The Pioneer Café has opened at McArthur’s Bakery in South St. Louis County.

The original Pioneer location in Kirkwood, which is owned by McArthur Bakery’s Scott Rinaberger, is known for its business model of offering competitive jobs for adults with developmental disabilities. That same concept is being applied to the new location within McArthur’s Bakery on Lemay Ferry Road.

“While this is a win for our loyal customers, the bigger win is that I will be able to further pursue my efforts to create more competitive employment opportunities for adults with IDD, intellectual and developmental disabilities,” Rinaberger said.

Some of Pioneer Café’s menu offerings

The menu, under the supervision of Chef Jason Longfield, will have the same offerings as the original Kirkwood location, including all-day breakfast and lunch on weekdays and a special brunch menu on the weekends. Standouts include Short Rib Hash and Cheddar Chive Biscuits & Sage Gravy.

The Pioneer’s Scoop Ice Cream Bar, which features shakes, sundaes and more, will also be on site, just like in Kirkwood.
