‘In the Mood’ for big band and swing? The world-famous Glenn Miller Orchestra is returning to St. Louis for a one-night only concert at The Sheldon.
Touring continuously since 1956, the Glenn Miller Orchestra’s greatest hits include “Moonlight Serenade,” “In the Mood,” “Chattanooga Choo Choo,” “A String of Pearls,” “Tuxedo Junction” and “Pennsylvania 6-500.”
The concert at The Sheldon will be on Sunday, June 4, 2023, at 4 p.m.
“The Sheldon is one of my favorite theaters in the country!” said Erik Stabnau, the band’s music director. “The acoustics allow the orchestra to play without any reinforcement and the audience in St Louis is one of the most fun and enthusiastic groups I’ve seen. The Sheldon has become a favorite annual stop for the GMO!”
During the orchestra’s performance at The Sheldon this summer, the enthusiastic crowd included a wide range of music fans, from baby boomers to 20-somethings and teens.
“Glenn Miller was one of the most popular musicians of the 1930s and 1940s and his music is still heard today on the radio, on TV and in movies,” Stabnau said. “Even 80 years later, songs like “Moonlight Serenade” and “In the Mood” are still recognizable so audiences of all generations attend shows.”
The 17-member orchestra, its lead singers and vocal group perform a nostalgic catalog of big-band classics the same way audiences from more than 80 years ago would have experienced Glenn Miller and his band live. The current band is known for its lively interaction with audience members, who sing along – and sometimes dance in the aisles – during their favorite songs.
Tickets for the June 4th concert at The Sheldon at 3648 Washington Ave. in Grand Center are $68, $58 and $48 and are available online or by phone (314) 533-9900.
